It’s launch day! Thank you for being among the first to visit the site – I hope you find it helpful.
As a first blog post, let me very briefly introduce myself and explain how/why letsg.ooo came about. My name is Justin. I was born in the UK, but have also lived in the US, the Czech Republic and currently Japan, where I live with my wife, son and a plant named Kevin.
I’m a travel addict, and bouncing around countries made me realize that much more than the price of your hotel, or the price of your flight; when you go to a country has the biggest effect on your travel budget. Why? Because exchange rates fluctuate all over the place, raising or lowering the cost of EVERYTHING you buy while on holiday. Unless you’re a super genius with the world’s most complicated handmade spreadsheet, you aren’t likely to be able to track when it’s a good idea to go where.
To be fair –
If you have always wanted to go to Greenland and only Greenland, then this site may not be for you. Come back after you’ve been to Greenland.
If you’re a Prince or a Sheikh, who has been known to say things like “look Allistair, I bought another yacht this morning!” then this site may not be for you.
But…if you are the type of person that has a passion for international travel and exploring new places in general, this site will tell you what countries are “on sale” for you. The results will vary (wildly) by what currency you have in your wallet/purse/mattress.
We filter out countries that have active travel warnings issued by the US Department of State. What’s left is a beautiful mix of countries that are on sale, just for you (you=person that has ____ currency in your wallet). It works by comparing the current exchange rate of the currency you hold with the 5 year average currency range of countries around the world.
The intent of the site is to enable people to see more of the world, including destinations they might not have otherwise considered. Simple.
Have a look around, and let me know if you have any comments, questions or what not.
